Creating A Management System

If you are about to start your own business, something that can be done with your home computer and something that will require file management then you will want to be organized from the beginning. If you fail to keep things in order early you will be kicking yourself later when you need to access it and can’t find it. It something that every good business must know how to do. Take the time to carefully plan out your steps and once you have created a system you’ll be better off. If you need some help formulating your system, here’s some things to plan out.

First thing you should be asking yourself is what will be your central computer for your business. There are two computer in most peoples homes. The desktop and the laptop. Be sure you know what computer you will be using the most. If it’s the laptop then that where your file management system should be located.

When you are looking to put files on the computer make sure you keep them in either an icon on the desktop or in the my documents section. Either way it must be a recognizable and easy to retrieve place. Make sure you label the main folder exactly what the overall of the sub folder will be. Marking it something easy like Accounts or Campaigns. If you fail to do this it could be lost in the shuffle.

As far as sub categories it’s difficult to figure out how to do that. Sometimes it’s ok to let sub categories share the same folder but the more prominent those sub categories are the more likely it is that you will need a bigger sub folder and it’s own sub folder. Just do your best to keep organized and your business will thank you for it later.
